Experience

Jeffrey Hart, an associate principal with the firm, has tried more than 280 cases before various administrative agencies, judges and juries. Mr. Hart has represented Fortune 500 companies, cities, universities, hospitals, physicians groups, and individuals in civil and criminal matters. Prior to joining Foley, Baron & Metzger, Mr. Hart was the managing partner of his own law firm, worked with a major Michigan firm, and practiced in Chicago for 10-years. Mr. Hart has litigated complex commercial, products liability, medical malpractice, workers' compensation, general liability, professional liability, probate, and criminal matters. In addition, he has experience with maritime law, including the Jones Act and the U.S. Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act representing shipping concerns and waterway terminal owners. Mr. Hart has argued cases before the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Illinois Appellate Court. Mr. Hart is a graduate of Loyola University Chicago School of Law where he served as an editor of the Consumer Law Reporter, now known as the Consumer Law Review, where he currently serves as a member of the Advisory Board.

Professional Background and Licensure

Jeffrey Hart is licensed to practice law before all Michigan and Illinois State courts. He is a member of the Federal trial bar for the Northern District of Illinois and the Eastern District of Michigan, and is admitted before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th and 7th Circuits. Mr. Hart has served as lead counsel, pro hac vice, in Colorado State and Federal Courts, and is certified under the US Department of Labor’s Benefits Review Board. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Illinois Defense Trial Lawyers Association, the State Appellate Defenders Organization, and the Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association.
